Celebrate Libraries Week with Northumberland Libraries

Our favourite week of the year is almost here... Libraries Week is an annual showcase and celebration of the best that libraries have to offer. Each year we pick a theme and explore the innovative and surprising things that libraries are doing to support their communities.

In 2021, Libraries Week takes place between the 4th and 10th October, celebrating the nation’s much-loved libraries and the central role that libraries play in their community as a driver for inclusion, sustainability, social mobility and community cohesion.

Northumberland Libraries have lots of exciting events planned, so take a look below to find out more:

Twisted Tales

Do you know any terrible children? Looking for some ever-so-slightly twisted family entertainment? We've got just the thing.

Scratch the surface of all the tales we have heard since childhood and you will find they are dark, nasty and full of dubious intention… A slight twist reveals the terrible, the silly and the downright incredible ’truths’ hidden in plain sight.

Together with Highlights Rural Touring Scheme, the wonderful Gav Cross: Storyteller brings these old fables to life again vividly. You’ll have heard these stories before but not told this way! An hour of nonsense and nastiness that will trigger giggles and gasps, with the added risk of ruining your childhood forever…

Come along to one of Gav's Terrible Tales for Terrible Children shows, suitable for children aged 7 and over, at Berwick, Ashington and Cramlington libraries. For more information and to book your tickets online please visit this website
