Book covers of Bobby's War, The Dover Cafe at War and The Gypsy's Daughter

Meet the author panel with Northumberland libraries

A fantastic panel of authors, Ginny Bell, Katie Hutton and Shirley Mann join us to talk about their work to date and latest novels on Tuesday 28 September at 2pm.

Ginny Bell went to school in Dover, never realising at the time what a fascinating and crucial role the town played in World War Two. She is a freelance editor who lives in London with her three children. The Dover Café at War is her first novel.

Katie Hutton is Irish but now lives in northern Tuscany. She writes mainly historical fiction on the themes of love and culture clash. The Gypsy Bride is her debut novel in this genre, with The Gypsy's Daughter following in 2021. Katie is a member of the Historical Novel Society, the Irish Writers Centre, and the Romantic Novelists' Association, and reviews for Historical Novel Review.

Shirley Mann is a Derbyshire-based journalist who spent most of her career at the BBC. She now makes short films for organisations such as the Heritage Lottery Fund. Her first novel, Lily's War, was inspired by Shirley's mother, who was a WAAF and her father who was in the Eighth Army. Her second book, Bobby's War is about a young ATA pilot, inspired by the iconic and pioneering figure, Air Transport Auxiliary (ATA) pilot Mary Ellis, who she interviewed a few weeks before she passed away.

This event will take place on Zoom and you can book a free place on Eventbrite.  Books by all three authors are available to borrow from your local library or from our digital library BorrowBox.
