The Core Strategy is the principal document in
the Northumberland Local Development Plan (or 'Local Plan'). The
document is currently under preparation and once finalised it will
set out a vision and strategy for development in Northumberland
over the next 15 years. The Core
Strategy will include the strategic planning policies of
the Local Plan. It will be use to assess planning applications for
new developments and help protect Northumberland's
environment.
Core Strategy Preferred Options consultation
Consultation on the Core Strategy Preferred Options
document took place between 6 February 2013 to 20 March
2013. The consultation has now
closed. The consultation provided an opportunity
to comment on the draft future planning policies for
Northumberland, which will guide future development and planning
decisions.

Core Strategy Issues and Options consultation
Consultation on the Core Strategy Issues and Options
document took place between 23 May and
15 August 2012. This consultation was the
first formal stage in preparing this document
and provided an opportunity for you to help shape future
planning policies in Northumberland. The consultation asked
for comments on a number planning issues in
Northumberland.

How you can get involved
In 2009, the Council prepared a Statement
of Community Involvement which sets out how we will involve
local people and organisations in the process of preparing the Core

Strategy must be carried out to ensure the principles of
sustainable development are integrated into the plan making
