Outdoor advertising - review of policy and practice
The council has carried out a review of policy and practice in
the way it deals with outdoor advertisements.
We want to introduce a new approach to
considering proposals for outdoor adverts – including providing
clear guidance on what type of adverts are acceptable and when
formal consent will be needed.
A new policy framework will guide businesses
and local community groups to display suitable outdoor adverts and
minimise their impact on local amenity and public safety. The
framework is based on nine statements of intent.
We know that advertising is important to local
businesses and community groups and we hope that our new approach
will make the process of agreeing the best form of outdoor
advertising more straightforward.
We are now advising representatives of the
companies and groups who display outdoor adverts about the outcome
of the review and the new policy and inviting them to become
involved in helping to shape the new guidance.
