You can join the library by visiting any of our Libraries in person.  You can also  join the library by filling in the online form.  You will need to need to collect your library card from the branch you select when joining online.

You can use your temporary library card number and PIN straightaway to access your online account and reserve books.

Once you have collected your library card.  You will then be able to download eBooks, eAudio and eMagazines. 

If you are under 16 and want to use the library computers, you will need to come to the library with your parent/guarantor. Also children under 15 will need a parents/guarantor permission if they wish to borrow adult books and audio books.
Fiction and non-fiction books, large print books, audio books, children's items, eBooks, eAudio and eMagazines.
3 weeks for all items except eMagazines which can be kept for an unlimited time.
You can renew borrowed items if no one else has requested them. Renewing Audio books  will attract an additional loan charge.  Renewals can be made online by clicking here or by telephoning your local library.  You can also renew items in person at any Northumberland Library.
If you choose email as your method of notification we will email you three days before your items are due back.  Giving you enough time to return them or for you to renew your items online or in person.
You can use your library card at any Northumberland Library, find out more about your local library here. 
There is no charge for borrowing books, but there are rental charges for borrowing other items such as audio books. Charges are made if you return items late. Children's items borrowed on an adult ticket are charged at the adult overdue rate. Concessionary rates apply to some library charges.

Switch to email notification and you will be sent reminders 3 days before your books are due for return. Email mylibrary@northumberland.gov.uk or ask a member of library staff. You will also be notified by email if you have any reservations to pick up.


You can also renew and reserve items online yourself with your library card and PIN.  If you need a PIN please email mylibrary@northumberland.gov.uk or ask a member of library staff.

Online
It's quick and easy to renew your items online.  To renew items visit mylibrary.co.uk and login with your library card and PIN.  Then click on "My Account".  Your account will now load up.  Click on "Current Loans".  You can then select the items you wish to renew and click on the blue button that says "Renew Selections" or you can click on the blue button that says "Renew All".

Telephone
You can also renew your items by telephoning your library during normal library opening hours.

In person
Library staff can renew your items when you visit the library. You do not even have to bring in your item to be renewed.  Please note library staff can only renew items they have not seen 5 times. If you require it to be renewed more than this you will need to bring the item in to get renewed. 
 

How do I reserve items? 

Online
The library catalogue allows you to reserve items for free.
  • To reserve items visit mylibrary.co.uk and login with your library card and PIN.  Search for the item that you want in the library catalogue and select the item you want to reserve.
  • Click on the 'place reservation' link.  Check that the correct library you want to pick the item up at is selected.
  • Click on 'place reservation' in the blue box to confirm your reservation.  You will then see a message to tell you whether your reservation has been successful or not.
  • You will receive a confirmation email, text message or phone call depending on your notification method when your item is ready for pick-up.  You will then have 10 days to collect your reserved item.
  • Up to 20 items can be reserved at one time.

Telephone
If you prefer and there is a book that you want, you can telephone your local library to reserve it for free. 

In person
You can call in to the library in person and get a member of library staff to reserve the items you want.
FAQs about library PIN numbers

If you have added your email address to your library account you can get or reset your PIN by visiting the library catalogue.  If you would like to add your email address to your library account please email mylibrary@northumberland.gov.uk or alternatively contact any library during library opening hours by telephone or in person.

You can also get a PIN by emailing mylibrary@northumberland.gov.uk or alternatively by contacting any library during library opening hours by telephone or in person. You will be asked for your library membership number and to confirm your personal details.  Your library membership number can be found on the back of your library card.

Once you have your PIN you will be able to access your library account online where you can renew, reserve items and download eBooks. 
If you would like to change your PIN to something more memorable please login to your account and click on the personal details tab.
If you have added your email address to your library account you can reset your PIN by visiting the library catalogue.  If you would like to add your email address to your library account please email mylibrary@northumberland.gov.uk or alternatively contact any library during library opening hours by telephone or in person.

Or you can get a new PIN by contacting any library during library opening hours by telephone or in person.  You can also email mylibrary@northumberland.gov.uk and request a new PIN. Please note: If you are already a library member please do not fill in the "join the library form" online if you require a new PIN.
FAQs about using the online library catalogue

Go to mylibrary.co.uk Enter your library membership number and PIN.  Your name should now appear on the website.  Underneath this click on "My Account".
It is very easy to search the library catalogue to find what you are looking for.  Just type in the title or author you are looking for in the search box and click search.

If you get too many results or need a more detailed search then try the advance search which is situated next to the search box.  This allows you to search by item format, year of publication and many more options.
How do I download eBooks, eaudio and eMagazines?

You must be a member of Northumberland Libraries before you can use this online service. You will need your library membership number (the 14 digit number on your library card) to download items. Then you will set up your own username and password to use the service.
