Congratulations is being given to students across Northumberland after receiving their GCSE results today.

Through hard work and determination, thousands of students across the county are receiving their GCSE results which will help shape their future educational journey.

Councillor Guy Renner-Thompson, Cabinet Member with responsibility for Children, Young People and Education said: “A huge congratulations to all those students who have received their results this week.

“I wish you all the best in progressing your future, whether you are choosing to continue through to sixth form, college, a vocational route, to employment or an apprenticeship. I encourage those that are still unsure to speak with the school or reach out to the council’s Careers Guidance Service.”

Celebrations were had at Astley High School this morning as students started to receive their results.

Student, Rachel said: “I am really happy with them. I have got everything I wanted and even achieved more than I wanted, so I am really pleased. I am staying here at Sixth Form, and I am doing maths, history and physics.”

Astley Community High School, Head of School, Richard Goodman said: “It is fantastic to see many students with excellent results and I am proud of the hard work and effort they put into their studies. The success also springs from the dedication and support that our staff have put in place. The results they have achieved will open the doors for the next stage in each student’s educational journey.

It is clear that issues emanating from COVID over the past few years have impacted some of our students. We will continue to focus on their resilience to ensure they are as prepared as possible for the courses they study.”

Haydon Bridge High School has seen another rise in the attainment of students.

Headteacher, Michael Smith said: “The students in this cohort have had a lot to deal with over the last three years and have shown a clear determination to succeed. They should be very proud of what they have achieved, and we are certainly very proud of them.”

Schools, colleges and further education providers will be keen to support students in whatever way they can in ensuring that they make the right choices for their future.
