Residents living in and around Blyth are being advised of overnight survey work taking place over the coming weeks for the proposed Blyth Relief Road.
Contractors will be carrying out surveys to measure the exact position and heights of all features along the route of the proposed Blyth Relief Road and will also be surveying the existing underground drainage infrastructure on the route.
The work will be done between 8pm and 6am due to the high traffic volumes on the A1061 and these surveys are vital to be able to progress the detailed design of the road.
They will be working to ensure disturbance is kept to a minimum, although there is the possibility of some low-level noise and increased lighting in the work areas.
Work is due to take place overnight between 8pm and 6am in the following areas from September 11th :
11/09/23 - 12/09/23 8pm-6am: West bound lane one from Laverock Hall to Shankhouse roundabout and south bound entry slip from A1061 to A189 dual carriageway
13/09/23 - 15/09/23 8pm-6am: A192 Roundabout A1061 to the C407 Laverock Hall roundabout at Portland Wynd
19/09/23 - 22/09/23 8pm-6am: Laverock Hall Road C407 Roundabout at Portland Wynd to the South Newsham roundabout
(Note for 13/09/23 - 15/09/23 8pm-6am and 19/09/23 - 22/09/23 8pm-6am this will mean the A1061 will be closed to through traffic between A192 Roundabout A1061 and South Newsham roundabout)
25/09/23 8pm-6am: South Newsham Roundabout to the junction of Sandringham Drive
26/09/23 8pm-6am: Sandringham Drive to Fulmar Drive junctions
28/09/23 8pm-6am: Fulmar Drive junction to the Links Road roundabout
During this time the Council’s Highways Team will also be using the closures to carry out some additional maintenance and cleaning on the roads.
Councillor John Riddle, Cabinet Member for Improving our Roads and Highways, said: “A new relief road will be a great boost for the town, making journeys easier for thousands of drivers each day as well as making it more attractive to new businesses.
“There is still a way to go on this project and this survey work is key preliminary work. We’re looking forward to bringing more details on the scheme to the public in the coming months.”
