Children’s soft play opens at Hexham

A fantastic new soft play area at Wentworth Sports and Leisure Centre in Hexham has been officially opened.

The new £287,000 facility was co-funded by Northumberland County Council and Active Northumberland.

Northumberland County Councillor Jeff Watson, cabinet member for Improving Healthy Lives cut the ribbon alongside Mark Warnes, the chief executive of Active Northumberland.

The joint investment marks an ongoing commitment by both parties to continually improve the standards and offer of sports and leisure facilities across the county.

Councillor Jeff Watson, cabinet member for Improving Health Lives said:
Over the past five years Wentworth Sports Centre has undergone a massive transformation with a new multi-functional gym, upgraded changing areas, a newly designed reception area and a new café.

“The addition of a new soft play area provides another great space for children to have fun, let off steam and be active.

Mark Warnes. Chief executive of Active Northumberland added:
“It is important our customers have great facilities to enjoy their leisure time and physical activity.

“The addition of this new soft play area is proving extremely popular, as is the adjacent HIVE cafe area which has also been refurbished with new comfortable seating, providing a relaxing space where parents can socialise and watch over their children.”

The three-tier soft play is knights and castle themed and is suitable for children up to 10 years of age. It is also available to book for children’s parties.

There are tunnels, slides and a variety of obstacles to keep the kids amused and entertained for hours in a safe and interactive way and there is a toddler zone for younger children.

You can book a soft play session via the Active Northumberland app, website, at the centre reception or by calling 01670 620200.
Adults go free, for under 1s the price is £2 and for children 1-10 years of age the price is £4.50.
