Call for donations of pre-loved sports clothing

Active Northumberland is calling for donations of good quality sports clothing and footwear to help others in need.

The pre-loved clothing can be dropped off at donation points in Ponteland Sports Centre,
Concordia in Cramlington and Ashington Sports Centre.

The project is run in partnership between local organisations Grassboots and Northumberland FA..
It aims to help people who are struggling financially to have access to grassroots sport and outdoor activities by providing low-cost new and pre-loved footwear and clothing to people in the Northeast of England.

The type of items needed include trainers, tracksuits, shorts, gym wear and football strips – for both children and adults.

Around half the items are donated at no cost back into communities, while others are advertised at low cost, helping to keep the project sustainable.

The Active Northumberland centres have been involved in the scheme since the beginning of the year and have helped collect hundreds of items.

Mark Warnes, chief executive of Active Northumberland said:

“We understand that times are tight for many families who have to make some tough choices to make ends meet.

“Children grow at a rapid rate and sometimes purchasing a new pair of football boots, or a sports kit is not a priority.

“These donations are extremely important to help both children and adults to get into or stay in sport and reap all the great benefits that being active brings.

So please check out your cupboards and wardrobes and drop off any items you no longer use. Not only will you be doing your bit for the environment by recycling, but you will also be putting a smile on someone’s face.”
