A pupil from Corbridge Middle School has been named as the winner of the Northumberland School’s Sustainability Network (NSSN) school logo competition. 
 

Anna Pocock, from year 7 has been named the winner of the competition which launched as part of Great Big Green Week in June 2023 and her iconic design will be the official branding of the NSSN giving it a unique identity. 
 

In winning the competition, not only will her design be seen throughout schools in Northumberland but £250 will be awarded to Corbridge Middle for them to spend on an environmental or sustainability project. 
 

The Council received countless creative entries that showcased the remarkable talent and dedication of Northumberland’s pupils. 
 

Glen Sanderson, Northumberland County Council Leader and Cabinet Member for Climate Change presented Anna with the winning certificate. He said: “I am delighted to see the creativity and enthusiasm of our young people. There have been lots of fantastic designs submitted and it has been incredibly difficult to pick just one.  
 

“I’d like to say a huge well done to Anna for her outstanding design and I look forward to seeing more environmental projects come into fruition from Corbridge Middle School.” 
 

First, High, Middle, Primary, Secondary and Special schools were asked to think about what sustainability means to them and create designs that capture the essence of the network.   
 

Adele Brown, Head Teacher of Corbridge Middle School stated: “We are exceptionally proud that Anna has won the competition and we hope that the logo and Council's campaign to encourage sustainability in schools will be a huge success." 
 

Anna added: "I'm delighted to have created the winning design as I really want everyone to take more action to protect our planet." 
 

The NSSN has been set up by Northumberland County Council in partnership with the UK Schools Sustainability Network (UKSSN) to provide staff and students across the county with a platform for sharing ideas and resources, facilitating collaboration and participation in local and national climate action initiatives. 
 

Dr Meryl Batchelder, Subject Lead for Science in the school said: "It's wonderful that the launch of the NSSN aims to support education for sustainability in our region. Anna's colourful logo represents a love of learning, the joy of biodiversity and the need for renewable forms of energy which are all vital to young people".
