Business leaders learn more about Northumberland Line benefits

Business leaders from across North Tyneside have been learning how the Northumberland Line will improve future access to job seekers.
The event, at Cobalt Business Park also explored how local residents can access training and support to help them on their employment journey – ahead of the passenger rail service opening from 2024.
The business event was the first of several in the region which will take place ahead of the line opening from next year.
Delegates heard from senior speakers at North Tyneside Council, the Northumberland Line and Transport North East, who shared information on their support for job seekers, the progress on the line and the links it will provide, as well as the other transport improvements that are coming on stream across the region.
They were joined by North of Tyne Combined Authority Mayor, Jamie Driscoll and North Tyneside Elected Mayor, Norma Redfearn CBE.
Neil Blagburn, Programme Delivery Director at the Northumberland Line said “This event is one of many initiatives we are undertaking to ensure the benefits of reintroducing train services on the Northumberland Line are delivered.
“The Line will serve as a quick and viable transport connection for people in south east Northumberland to access jobs in North Tyneside and beyond, which makes events such as this so important.”
Councillor Wojciech Ploszaj, Cabinet Member for Supporting Business and Opportunities at Northumberland County Council, added: “The line will help transform the economic landscape of the area, bringing so many opportunities for businesses, education and leisure.
“It’s crucial we showcase the plans to businesses across the region and ensure they’re fully engaged and aware of how they can benefit over the coming years.”
North Tyneside’s Elected Mayor, Dame Norma Redfearn DBE, said: “The Northumberland Line will improve connectivity across three local authority boundary areas, helping to create jobs and grow the region’s economy.
“It’s vital that we spread the word so that businesses and individuals feel well-informed about the benefits and can fully grasp its potential.”
