Survey aims to gauge demand for SEND sporting activities

A survey is being conducted to gauge interest in sport and leisure activities for young people with special education needs and disabilities across Northumberland.

Northumberland County Council is eager to hear from parents/carers of young people with SEN/Ds, the young people themselves and professionals who work within the sector.

The survey can be accessed via  https://nland.cc/SEND and will take about 5 minutes to complete. It will help determine what activities people would like to see provided and where and when they would like to access them.

Jeff Watson, Northumberland County Councillor, Cabinet Member for Healthy Lives said:
The County Council is looking at the possibility of expanding their Sport & Leisure offer for young people with Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities

“The views and responses to this questionnaire are important in not only helping us to understand what services are currently operating around the county, but to also allow us to identify gaps in provision and see where the local demand is.”

Sport and leisure activities are a catalyst to expand social circles, encourage independence and improve mental health for its service users.  This is achieved by creating a fun, safe environment where everyone is encouraged to be themselves without fear of discrimination.

The survey closes on 26 February.
