Workplace testing

Find out about workplace testing that may be available to your business.

You can order free rapid lateral flow tests to test your employees twice a week in the workplace.

If you have 10 or more employees, you can order tests for your employees to collect from their workplace and use at home twice a week. You can do this if you cannot provide testing in the workplace.

You must register by 11:59pm on 12 April 2021. If your business is closed or you cannot provide tests now, you should still register so you can order tests in the future.

You can register to order tests if:

  • your business is registered in England
  • your employees cannot work from home

PLEASE NOTE:

Rapid lateral flow testing aims to break the chains of transmission by detecting coronavirus (COVID-19) in people who are not showing symptoms.  Around one in three people who have coronavirus (COVID-19) have no symptoms and may be unknowingly spreading the virus.

Testing is not a substitute for all the other measures that need to be in place to make a workplace Covid secure
, but is an additional measure which may increase the confidence of the workforce to attend work and may reduce the risk of workplace outbreaks which can result in larger numbers of staff being required to self-isolate.

Businesses with under 50 employees can access the council's targeted community testing programme. Businesses with 10 employees or more can register for home test kits for their employees.

Accessing rapid testing through the council

Everyone in Northumberland is now able to access free, regular, rapid testing. Residents without symptoms of Covid-19 can access rapid lateral flow tests (LFDs) for themselves and their families to use at home twice a week, in line with government guidance.

Along with Test and Trace and the roll out of the vaccine, this testing programme will help identify hidden infections and is another tool that can be used to bring coronavirus back under control.

Anyone testing positive must immediately isolate at home, along with any close contacts. The targeted testing will work alongside the national test and trace system and any positive tests will link to the NHS contact tracing system.

Anyone with symptoms of coronavirus (COVID-19), such as a high temperature, a new or continuous cough, or a loss or change to your senses of taste or smell, should book a test here.
