Bulky waste

Bulky waste is household waste you can’t fit into your rubbish bin e.g. sofa, freezer, washing machine.

This page provides information on how to dispose of your bulky waste items.

  • Take most of your bulky waste items to one of our household waste recovery centres for free.
  • Look for organisations and charities on our reuse and recycle page to see if any could make use of your items. Some will collect for free.
  • Use our bulky waste collection service which will collect items from the edge of your property. For further information read our bulky waste FAQs here. Please see below for a list of items that we collect.
For commercial waste (waste generated as a result of carrying out a business), please see here for more information.
The council provides a service for collecting bulky waste items.

Please check the list below to see if we can collect your bulky waste. All those listed are classed as one item. Loose materials must be bagged or bundled and light enough for one person to lift safely or it won’t be collected.

If you don’t see your bulky waste item listed, please see our list of commonly requested items we don't collect below, and whether we may still be able to dispose of the items for a fee.

If you need help putting your bulky items out, we can offer an assisted collection. Please let us know if you require assistance at the time of booking. You will need to give a short explanation of why you are unable to move your items out of your property.
  • Put the items for collection outside your property.
  • Place items as close as possible to where your wheeled household waste bin is collected.
  • Items should be in an area that is easily accessible and not likely to cause injury/inconvenience.
  • We can collect waste from just inside your property if you are unable to place it outside or if this will cause an obstruction. You must be present and will be asked to sign an insurance disclaimer for any accidental damage that may be caused. Please inform us of this at the time of booking.
  • If you live in a flat, items must be left on the ground floor outside the building and easily identified.
  • Bag any loose materials, ensuring they are light enough for one person to carry, or unfortunately we will not be able to take them.
Check our terms and conditions.
