What information do I need?

The birth, death, marriage or civil partnership must have taken place in Northumberland between 1837 and the present day. 

Birth

  • Where and when the birth took place
  • The full name of the person
  • Any supporting information, e.g. parents’ names, to identify entries with the same name

Death

  • The name of the deceased
  • The date of death
  • The place of death

Marriage

  • The name of church, chapel, register office or licensed venue
  • The date of wedding
  • The name of both of the married parties 

Civil partnership

  • The name of both of the partners
  • The date of partnership
  • Where the civil partnership ceremony took place

Please note, these fees may be subject to change.

  • £11 (standard service - to be posted second class)
  • £35 (priority service - to be posted first class)
  • *First purchase of certificates (deaths and births within the first calendar month of registration) will be charged at £11. Please use the standard service (fee - £11 per certificate). 

Timescales

The following is our current working time scales on certificate processing:

  • Births, Deaths and Marriages - standard service (UK) – orders are being processed and posted second class within 15 working days of the order.
  • Birth, Deaths and Marriages - priority service (UK) – orders received before 12pm (Mon-Fri) will be processed on the same day; orders received after 12pm will be processed the following working day. Orders are posted first class.
  • First purchase of Deaths certificates – orders will be processed within 24 hours of ordering (on working days) and posted first class.
  • First purchase of Birth certificates – orders will be processed within 5 working days of ordering and posted second class.

Certificates lost in the post

You should allow one calendar month after ordering before contacting us about your certificate (except for priority orders).

If your certificates have not been delivered after this time, contact us on 0345 600 6400 and we will investigate on a case-by-case basis.

All lost certificates should be reported within 3 months of ordering. After this point, any certificates that have not been received should be re-ordered.
