They are personalised to the wishes of family and friends.
They are appropriate for cremations and burials at a burial ground but cannot be carried out in religious buildings.

Many people choose to use the services of a funeral director to organise the majority of the funeral arrangements.
However, you can make all the arrangements yourself. Including the provision of a coffin and transportation of the deceased to the crematorium or cemetery.
Copies of all the necessary forms are available from the crematorium.
The staff will be happy to assist you.

Under the Public Health Control of Disease Act 1984, we may have a duty to help with funeral arrangements if no relatives or friends are available.
We aim to do this in a sympathetic manner.
If possible, we will recover costs from the deceased’s estate to limit the cost to residents.
We will make every effort to find a will or any documents which indicate the existence of relatives, religious beliefs or funeral preferences.
The funeral will be a cremation, unless there is anything to suggest the deceased was against this.
Funeral arrangements will be made by a funeral director nominated by us.
If the deceased left paperwork or advised that they wanted to be buried, suitable arrangements will be made.

A natural burial that helps create new woodland.
There are two established woodland burial sites in Northumberland:
All plots are single depth to keep disturbance in the area to a minimum.
They will accommodate one burial.
Burials in this area will only be permitted in biodegradable coffins or shrouds of natural fibre.
Once the round has settled following the burial, a tree can be planted at the head of the grave.
The woodland area will be managed as traditional woodland with no horticultural chemicals used.
This will encourage and protect wild flowers and wildlife.
Memorials or other markings are not allowed on individual grave plots.
This is to discourage people from walking on grave plots and to allow the area to develop naturally.
This includes floral tributes after the funeral flowers have wilted.
Paths will not be constructed in the woodland area.
