New partnership encourages walking for health

Northumberland County Council has teamed up with Go Jauntly, a popular walking and wellness app, to launch an exciting set of curated walks to encourage residents and visitors to explore the county on foot.
This collaboration forms a key part of the council’s ‘Big Northumberland Gear Change’ campaign, which aims to promote sustainable travel and enhance wellbeing by encouraging more walking and cycling, while also discovering what’s on your doorstep.
Twelve unique walks are available from the ‘Big Northumberland Gear Change’ collection, some of which highlight the rich history of the region. Routes such as the Morpeth Suffragette Nature Trail, the Berwick Hospital Heritage Trail and the Ashington Local Heroes Walking Tour invite walkers to connect with both nature and the area’s historical significance.
Hana Sutch, CEO of Go Jauntly said: “Northumberland is one of the most inspiring places to walk.
“It’s got everything. Beautiful vistas, wildlife galore and great towns and villages, steeped in history. There’s something for everyone! We highly recommend these lovely new walking routes to help you explore Northumberland on foot. Just download the Go Jauntly app and search Northumberland to find them.”
Cllr Jeff Watson, Cabinet Member for Healthy Lives added: “Teaming up with Go Jauntly is a brilliant way to inspire more people to explore Northumberland’s stunning landscapes and rich history, all while improving their health and wellbeing.
“As part of ‘the Big Northumberland Gear Change’ campaign, we’re encouraging residents and visitors to embrace walking and cycling as healthier and more sustainable alternatives to driving. Walking isn’t just good for the body, it’s good for the mind too.”
The ‘Big Northumberland Gear Change’ campaign has already seen a positive response from local communities, with a focus on reducing reliance on cars and encouraging greener and healthier travel options. Go Jauntly’s walking routes play an important part in this effort, providing an easy way for people to explore their local environment, improve their fitness and connect with nature.
This partnership supports the wider goal of making walking and cycling the preferred choices for shorter journeys, contributing to a cleaner, healthier and more sustainable future for Northumberland.
