Work smart to boost employability and live well

Northumberland County Council is reaffirming its commitment to help residents find meaningful work, develop new skills and build brighter futures by marking the UK’s annual Employability Day.

Through its “Work Smart Live Well” service, the Council aims to celebrate the organisations and partnerships driving positive change in the local jobs market.

Employability Day, now in its tenth year, is organised by the Employment Related Services Association (ERSA), the national body representing the employment support sector.

The annual event celebrates the work of groups and initiatives that help people back to work, changing careers or accessing training.

Part-funded by the North East Combined Authority, “Work Smart Live Well” is a partnership with local and national services, such as the Kings Trust, Northern Butterflies, the National Careers Service, Open Doors and many others.

The member groups provide a range of support from CV writing and job searching to training opportunities and general lifestyle advice.

Cllr Richard Wearmouth, Cabinet member for Business, Growth and Regeneration for Northumberland County Council, said: “Two of our priorities are focused on driving economic growth and tackling inequalities and we are proud of the work  we are doing to invest in business that will bring in more job opportunities.

"Our commitment to skills training is bringing new job opportunities for many and Employability Day provides a great opportunity to highlight the excellent support available through “Work Smart Live Well”.

“We want our residents to know that help is out there and that they’re not alone in trying to build a better future.

“The sessions offer friendly support tailored to individual needs to anyone seeking work, training or personal development with expert guidance to help them take the first step toward a more rewarding career.”

Residents are invited to drop in to “Work Smart Live Well” sessions at Cramlington Community Hub any Tuesday between 9.30am and 1pm. Appointments can be booked at nland.cc/book-worksmart

*To mark the tenth anniversary of Employability Day ERSA is writing to every MP, Elected Mayor and council leader across the UK calling for sustained funding for employment services to support those who work in the sector and the communities they serve.
