Council Leader reaffirms support to local high school

Northumberland County Council Leader, Glen Sanderson has reaffirmed the support on offer from the Council following the current closure of Prudhoe Community High School.
The school, built by the Department for Education and operated by the Cheviot Learning Trust, was forced to close last week after a number of cracks were found, and is likely to be closed for up to nine months.
Cllr Sanderson has asked senior Council Officers to consider all options to support the Learning Trust to find a temporary home and ensure pupils have face-to-face teaching whilst a longer-term solution is found.
Cllr Guy-Renner Thompson, Cabinet Member with responsibility for education and schools said: “Whilst Prudhoe High School is not run by the Council and ultimately this is for the Cheviot Learning Trust to decide, we are looking at a range of options to help the Trust find a temporary solution.
Cllr Glen Sanderson, County Council Leader added: “My Council will always do what’s best for our children, parents and carers, even where the school is not ours. That’s why I’ve asked senior officers to come forward with options to support the Learning Trust during these challenging times.”
Alice Witherow, Chief Executive, Cheviot Learning Trust said: “Cheviot Learning Trust is very grateful for the time, support and collaborative effort from Northumberland County Council in finding solutions.”
