Nursery World Awards 2022

National recognition for Early Years at Nursery World Awards

Congratulations to Northumberland Early Years advisor, Katie Watson, who has been recognised nationally for her impact on the lives of children, young people and families over the last 40 years.

Katie was Highly Commended in the Outstanding Achievement category at the Nursery World Awards 2022.

The nomination came from the council’s Early Years team, Northumberland Early Years settings and partners from Northumbria University.

Councillor Guy Renner-Thompson, Cabinet member with responsibility for Children’s Services, said: “This is well-deserved and on behalf of the council, I would like to thank Katie for her commitment to improving the lives of young children, their families and the teams she has managed.

“She is a true champion of young people and her innovation and drive has played a key role in developing the fantastic Early Years support we provide here in Northumberland.”

Katie said: "I came to Northumberland eight years ago to lead the Early Years team. I am grateful to have had this opportunity as together we have championed the rights of the child, improved practice and raised quality, introduced new and innovative ways of working as well as supported each other through thick and thin.

"It has been an absolute privilege to work with such talented, compassionate and resilient people. Their positive “can do” attitude rubs off on all those around them and has an enormous impact on the Early Years community. Any part I may have played in this team's development makes me proud and then to be nominated by them for such a prestigious award is overwhelming."
