A charity calendar featuring dogs rescued in Northumberland is now for sale with all the proceeds going directly to two local animal charities.

The calendar features twelve dogs that have been rescued by Northumberland County Council’s animal welfare team and partner charities.

The calendars cost £4.49 and can be ordered online from nland.cc/Calendar or by contacting the animal welfare team on 0345 600 6400.

All the proceeds will go to two local animal charities: Northumberland Dog Rescue (formerly Alexa’s Animals) and Berwick Animal Rescue Kennels.

Each dog has their back story printed alongside their photograph. The printing of the calendar has been funded by the fines collected for dog fouling offences in Northumberland.

One of the rescued dogs featured in the calendar is Paddington, a very affectionate dog, who has found as a stray and in extremely poor condition.  He was sent to Berwick Animal Rescue Kennels where he is recovering after treatment and is looking for his new forever home.

Another dog featuring in the calendar is Flapjack, who was found as a stray in Blyth, riddled with fleas and with a matted coat. Although he was microchipped it was not registered to an owner.  He is currently being cared for at Northumberland Dog Rescue and is looking for a new family.

Many local residents may remember the story of Flick the King Charles Spaniel who was found abandoned and in poor condition in Mitford near Morpeth. Despite a social media appeal for information, there were no leads as to how she came to be abandoned. Flick went to Berwick Animal Rescue Kennels where she recovered from her ordeal and landed on all paws when she was rehomed with another three rescue dogs.

Northumberland County Councillor, Colin Horncastle, cabinet member for community services said:  "The council produces this calendar each year and it’s a great way for us and members of the public to support the local animal charities we work closely with and help them fund their fantastic work.”

“Working with these charities we have helped dogs to be reunited with their owners, receive medical attention and when necessary find new homes to give the dogs the best possible future. These charities work relentlessly to help animals in need and all proceeds from the calendar will go to support their vital work.”
