The village of Bamburgh has once again been voted the best seaside destination in Britain in the Which? annual survey.

The survey saw 4,303 holidaymakers vote for their favourite resort, rating them across a number of categories, including the quality of the beaches, the seafront, the tourist attractions, food and drink, scenery, peace and quiet, and the value for money.

It’s the second year running the village has claimed the top spot and it also scooped first place in 2019.

With beautiful beaches, attractive village centre and iconic clifftop castle, Bamburgh beat off competition from some of the most famous areas of the UK – including Llandudno and St Andrews which came second and third respectively.

Councillor Jeff Watson, Cabinet Member for Tourism at Northumberland County Council said: “We’re obviously delighted one of our most popular tourist areas has been awarded this honour for the third time in recent years.

“While so many parts of the stunning Northumberland coastline could have been in contention, it’s easy to see why Bamburgh is so popular with visitors from near and far – it's a classic destination.

“Tourism is such an important part of our economy and we work hard to attract both day visitors and those who wish to stay longer, while at the same time recognising the needs of the people who live in and around the village all year round.

“We’re looking forward to another busy summer throughout the county and welcoming visitors to our special part of the UK.”

Rory Boland, editor of Which? Travel, said: With a busy summer predicted on British beaches, the vast spread of sand in Bamburgh means there is always space for your towel. That’s helped by the wind, whipping in off the North Sea, which keeps the sand looking freshly groomed and free of litter.

“It’s a seaside visit at its most basic and best; with little to do but walk, run, or sip cups of tea from your flask from the comfort of your deckchair while watching North Sea waves roll by.”
