To mark the occasion, the Council along with partners, will be holding community and volunteer fairs:
  • 1 June, 10:30 – 13:30 Berwick Leisure Centre
  • 6 June, 9:30 – 12:30, Cramlington Community Hub (next door to Concordia)
  • 7 June, 10:30 – 13:30, Haltwhistle Community Hub (Mechanics Centre)

At the events, the Council will be joined by local charities and organisations, showcasing the range of volunteering opportunities on offer, encouraging residents to try volunteering for the first time and helping people find out how, through volunteering, they can make a difference to a cause they are passionate about.

Cllr Wendy Pattison, cabinet member for Adults Wellbeing, said: “The hard work and dedication of the voluntary and community sector across Northumberland is something we’re immensely proud of here at the Council.

“We, along with our partners, have been bowled over by those who have offered their support and given their time to help others in response to the current Ukraine crisis.

“Volunteering can help with your own wellbeing, provide opportunities to make friends and learn new skills while supporting a cause you're passionate about. We’re privileged to have dedicated and enthusiastic volunteers registered with us here at the Council and we are truly grateful for the continued support of volunteers, new and old."

The Council has almost 1,700 registered volunteers who support services in a variety of ways both formally and informally from green dog walkers and litter pickers to asylum seekers and refugee befrienders and Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service Cadets.

To register as a volunteer with the County Council and see what volunteering options are available, come along to one of the volunteer fairs or get in touch with their dedicated volunteer team at: volunteer@northumberland.gov.uk
