Appeal to find owners of severely neglected dog found near Mitford

An appeal is being made to members of the public to come forward if they have any information, or dash cam footage that could solve the mystery of a dog that has been found abandoned and in poor condition just outside of Mitford, Morpeth.

The female Cavalier King Charles Cocker Spaniel was picked up by a member of the public at around 8 pm on Sunday 24th July on the B6343 between Mitford and the A1 bridge.

She was found to be underweight and in poor physical condition and has been used for breeding. Her micro-chip details were out of date.
The dog was taken by an Animal Welfare Officer from Northumberland County Council to Berwick Animal Rescue Kennels where she is being cared for and nursed back to health.

An animal welfare officer from Northumberland County Council said: “This dog has been neglected and is in extremely poor condition. Someone somewhere knows who she belongs to. We believe she has been used for breeding and then dumped and if this is the case we want to get to the bottom of it and bring the person responsible to account.”

“There are reports of a vehicle acting suspiciously in the area at that time so we are particularly interested in hearing from anyone who has dash cam footage from their cars which may be able to shed some light on this.”

If you have any information, no matter how small, please contact the Animal Welfare Team on 0345 600 6400 or by email to Animal.Welfare@northumberland.gov.uk in the strictest of confidence.
