Deadline looming for community grant applications

Voluntary and community groups across the county, that are in need of financial assistance, are being invited to apply for funding from Northumberland County Council’s community chest fund.

Applications are being particularly encouraged from groups in the south-east of the county as fewer applications have been received from this area.

The money can be used for a range of community causes including those that enhance the environment and promote health and wellbeing.
Grants of 75% up to a maximum of £5,000 are available and there is no minimum amount for applications.
In the past the grant has been particularly helpful to youth groups and sports groups but has also helped to support a wide range of organisations and causes.

Examples of projects that have received funding through the scheme include new cycle parking, new kitchen, IT equipment and boiler repairs for community centres; sports and craft equipment and also garden tools for community groups.
The deadline for the next round of funding is 1st October and the application process is very straight forward.

Northumberland County Councillor and business chair Barry Flux said:
“Community groups are often enthusiastic to do more to meet the needs of their communities, but lack of money is often a major obstacle for them. The community chest is a popular grant fund and is aimed at helping these hard-working groups finance worthwhile community causes. We have made it as simple as possible to apply for the grant, so please do get in touch if you think you have a project, we may be able to help you fund.”
