Changes to Christmas bin collection dates

Visit our bin collection and waste pages for more information.

Residents are being reminded of Christmas Bank Holiday bin collection dates in the county.

Usually the council collect everything a day late following a Bank Holiday. However, over Christmas this year one day's collection needs to be brought forward and collected early.

There are around 40,000 households that are due to have either a general waste or a recycling bin collected on Monday 27 December but because of the way Bank Holidays fall this year the council will be collecting these bins three days early on Friday 24 December.

Please refer to the table below:

All affected properties will get a postcard as a reminder to put their bins out on the 24th. These post cards will drop through letterboxes between 6 and 10 December.

All other properties will get their bins emptied a day later than normal over the Christmas/New Year fortnight.

Greg Gavin, Head of Neighbourhood Services with Northumberland County Council, said: “Our refuse teams work hard throughout the year and Christmas is the busiest time both for them and our residents.

“There are always changes to collection dates over this period and it’s important people make a note of when their revised collection date is. We’re doing all we can to remind people well in advance to make collections as smooth as possible for everyone.”

The council’s social media channels and website will also remind everyone to be aware of new dates.
