Learning and Skills

Learn local for free

Part-time learning in Northumberland is now even more accessible thanks to a range of free courses through the Learning and Skills service.

The refreshed programme of part-time courses is now live and welcoming learners who are looking to upskill, seek a new career or simply enhance their learning.

Current Learner, Katie Hetherington said: “I would really encourage anyone looking to retrain or looking for a new career to consider a course with the Learning and Skills team. The team are extremely supportive, and it is great being able to learn locally on a course that I was passionate about. It has given me the skills and learning I needed to move forward with my career aspirations."

With a range of courses available in catering, construction, education, health and social care, horticulture and languages there is something for everyone.

Cath McEvoy-Carr, Executive Director for Adult and Children’s services, said: “We know how difficult this year has been for many of our residents. Aligned with our ambitions to make learning accessible to any new and returning learners, almost all of our courses are now free of charge – giving those who need it the chance to learn locally, upskill or change their career. “

With campuses across the county in Alnwick, Berwick, Blyth, Haydon Bridge, Hexham, Morpeth and Prudhoe there isn’t too far to travel to be inspired.

Classes are being offered both digitally and face-to-face in line with government guidelines.

Those learners who would return to face-to-face learning are being reassured that all measures are in place to ensure the health and safety of all learners in all campuses.
