Tougher COVID restrictions announced for region

Tougher COVID restrictions have today, Monday 28 September, been announced for the region.

The Secretary of State of Health and Social Care, Matt Hancock, today announced an additional restriction for our area and across the LA7 footprint, which means that any household cannot mix with people they do not live with, unless they’re in the same support bubble, in any indoor setting and this is legally enforceable.

We understand that this applies to any indoor venue pubs, restaurants, cafes, shops, places of worship, community centres, leisure and entertainment venues, or visitor attractions. This is already enforceable inside a private home or garden.

We have been advised that this guidance will now be enforceable by law, and subject to fines from 00:01hrs Wednesday 30 September.

We are keen to work with businesses to implement these changes, and urge residents to act responsibly in our fight against Coronavirus.

We await further details of these restrictions and those of a funding package to be agreed with councils to support the measures and tackle the rising infection rate. As soon as we have official guidance from Government we will update our website.
