A road closed sign

Drivers advised of A697 roadworks

Drivers are being advised of road improvement works on the A697 over the coming weeks.

The works will be taking place at Longframlington and during the week starting 12th October teams will be removing the existing road surface under a convoy system. The works will take place between 5pm and 10pm from Monday 12th October until Friday 16th October.
There will also be two-way traffic lights in the village between Tuesday, October 13th and Saturday, October 17th between 7.30am and 4pm.

The following week resurfacing works will be carried out under a road closure. The works will take place between 8:30am and 5pm from Monday 19th October until Saturday 24th October.

When the road is closed there will be two diversion routes:

For HGVs southbound: come off the A697 at Cornhill and travel east along the A698 to Berwick. At the A1 junction, turn right and travel south on the A1 to Morpeth. Vice versa for northbound traffic.

For local light traffic heading south: come off the A697 at Moor House crossroads and travel west on the B6341 to Rothbury. At Rothbury turn left and travel along the B6344 to Weldon Bridge.

Council Leader Glen Sanderson said: “We have already made improvements to the road drainage system through Longframlington earlier this year to address some longstanding surface water issues at this location

“We’re now returning to do the resurfacing work which has been timed to try and minimise the impact on residents, local businesses and the travelling public.

These works are all part of our ongoing road improvement programme but I understand they will cause some disruption for drivers and local residents while our teams are there.

“I’d like to thank everyone in advance for their understanding and patience while we carry out this final phase of much needed work in Longframlington and ask people drive carefully on the diversion routes.”
