Travel and exercise during lockdown

We know many of you will be looking for places to enjoy your daily exercise during the next few weeks.

The Government's guidance states that while you can travel for exercise, you should as much as possible spend time outdoors exercising in your local area.

If you do choose to travel to Northumberland or away from your local area, you must adhere to current restrictions:

You must:
  • Only exercise with members of your own household, or social bubble, or one other person from another household. You must also stay 2 metres apart from people you don't live with,
  • wash or sanitise your hands regularly,
  • wear a face covering indoors where social distancing is not possible.
Children under 5, and up to two carers for a person with a disability who needs continuous care, are not counted towards the gatherings limit on two or more people meeting outside.

You must not travel if you are experiencing any coronavirus symptoms, are self-isolating as a result of coronavirus symptoms, are sharing a household or support bubble with somebody with symptoms or have been told to self-isolate after being contacted by NHS Test and Trace.

Those found breaching self-isolation rules could face a fine. Fines start at £1,000 and could increase up to £10,000 for repeat offences and the most serious breaches, including for those preventing others from self-isolating.

Not all facilities are open at this time, so please check our website before travelling to find out what is and isn't open in Northumberland - www.northumberland.gov.uk

Our beautiful beaches and stunning beauty spots will still be here for you to enjoy after this difficult time so for now please, Protect Yourself, Protect Others, Protect Northumberland.
