Position Statement: Remembrance Parade and Services

From 5 November, there are new national restrictions in England that effect how Remembrance Sunday activities can take place in line with current COVID-19 restrictions and requirements.

Following updated Government advice, Remembrance events organised by local authorities (including town and parish councils) and by faith leaders can still take place outdoors so long as a COVID-19 risk assessment is completed, and all reasonable measures to limit the risk of transmission of the virus are taken. A comprehensive list of these measures can be found here.

If you are an individual or group that has previously planned and delivered local events across the county on Remembrance Sunday or Armistice Day, we strongly advise that the national and local government restrictions are reviewed carefully to ensure that any plans you are considering adhere to these guidelines.

Northumberland County Council will this year be commemorating Remembrance Day online on Sunday 8 November and Wednesday 11 November with a pre-recorded virtual service. Residents of Northumberland will be able to pay their respects from 10.30am on Remembrance Sunday and Armistice Day by tuning into an online service hosted on our Facebook, Twitter and YouTube channels.

The council would also like to encourage residents to take to their doorsteps on Remembrance Sunday (8 November) at 11am to observe the two-minute silence.
