HWRC service update

Northumberland tips to remain open during second national lockdown

The council has confirmed that all Household Waste Recovery Centres (tips) in Northumberland will remain open to residents during the month-long national lockdown beginning Thursday 5 November.

Local HWRCs will continue business as usual over the lockdown period, with no changes to the current operating practices.

Confirmation from the Government ensures that public services, such as Waste and Recycling Centres, may continue. Residents are able to leave their homes to visit sites under the lockdown restrictions.

Site rules, such as strict social distancing measures, will remain in place to protect staff and visitors.

Residents are urged to only bring what they can safely carry, as staff cannot assist with the offloading of materials.

The council’s new permit scheme was reintroduced for vans and trailers on Monday 26 October. This scheme will also remain open for vehicles that require a permit to visit the tip.

The Government are instructing people to stay at home as much as possible.

Households should look to reduce the number of journeys they make throughout the lockdown period to keep themselves and others safe.

Residents are urged to recycle as much as possible at home. The following items can be placed in household recycling bins: paper and magazines, cardboard, plastic bottles, clean/rinsed food tins, drinks cans, and aerosols.
