Hairdresser talking to client

Free Mental Health Training for Hair Professionals

The Public Health Team at Northumberland County Council is working in partnership with Lions Barbershop Collective to offer a free online training session for hair professionals in Northumberland on supporting the mental health of their clients.

The BarberTalk Live training, has been created to assist hair professionals by giving them the skills to help their clients when in need.

Taking place on Monday 30th November, BarberTalk will offer an in-depth session for barbers and hairdressers that:

- Gives the tools for you to recognise mental health issues in clients
- Equips you to be able to ask direct questions about the emotional wellbeing of your clients
- Refines your listening skills to be present at a critical moment for your clients
- Provide you with the resources to help your client find support

Cllr Trevor Cessford, Mental Health Champion for Northumberland County Council, said: “The changes we have all experienced over the last few months can feel really overwhelming and difficult to deal with. The Coronavirus pandemic means that life has changed for all of us and many people will be feeling anxious, worried, lonely or frustrated.

“Hairdressers and barbers offer a safe space for their clients.  They offer a friendly ear and by having the tools this fantastic training offers, they could really make a difference to someone’s life. Looking after our mental health is really important, especially at this challenging time.“

The BarberTalk training is a four hour course which will be delivered live online. Places are limited and anyone interested in taking part should register at:
