Three grant schemes in Northumberland have reopened, and the county council is urging any business which believes that it might be eligible for funding support to apply within the extended deadline.

The Local Restrictions Support Grant (Open) is for businesses in the hospitality, hotel, bed and breakfast and leisure sectors which remained open during late September and October this year but were severely impacted by the Covid rules which restricted socialising.

The Government provides funding to the county council for identified business types, and the council has estimated that over 1,000 eligible businesses in Northumberland have not yet applied.

Others may have simply missed the original deadline of 7 December, and now have until midnight on Sunday 10 January 2021 to make an application.

The Additional Restrictions Grant (Open) and Additional Restrictions Grant (Closed) were developed by the council so that it can benefit even more businesses.

These grants can support:
⦁ Businesses which directly supply the hospitality, hotel, bed and breakfast and leisure sectors;
⦁ Businesses in the hotel, bed and breakfast and leisure sectors which didn't close but were severely affected by regional restrictions between 18 September and 4 November, and which don't have a rateable value; and
⦁ Businesses in in the non-essential retail, hospitality, hotel, bed and breakfast, leisure sectors, personal care facilities, entertainment and tourism venues and leisure sports facilities, which were legally required to close from 5 November to 2 December, and which don't have a rateable value.

Again, the council is aware of businesses in these categories which are eligible and haven’t yet made an application and wish to maximise the opportunity to support them.

Applications for these Additional Restrictions Grants will also remain open until midnight on Sunday 10 January 2021.

Cllr Nick Oliver, cabinet member for corporate services at Northumberland County Council said: “We have already paid out over £1 million to nearly 600 businesses, but we know that there are still a number of businesses out there which could be eligible and who haven’t yet applied.

“I would urge all hospitality, hotel, bed and breakfast and leisure sector businesses, businesses which directly supply these sectors and others who don’t have a rateable value to check the criteria and make an application.

“We want to support as many enterprises as we possibly can.”

For businesses which were legally required to close during the national lockdown, from 5 November to 1 December, there is a further grant scheme still open for applications - Local Restrictions Support Grant (Closed) Addendum.

More grant schemes will also be launching soon – to provide support for businesses during the current Tier 3 restrictions - and also to provide a one-off support payment for the Christmas period for ‘wet-led’ pubs.
