Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service have been involved with the FireFighter Plus project - this initiative is the first of its kind where the promoters of the  project decided to develop an online platform (www.firefightersplus.eu) for firefighters on how to use their position as role models to promote fire safety among the most vulnerable groups.

After two years of hard work, the Firefighters Plus online platform was published in September this year. In just two months, the results are well over the initial expectations:

12.907 visits to the online platform www.firefightersplus.eu and 4.650 Google Search results.

It was presented as a good practice in the European Forum on Integration of Migrants and Refugees; and now it has been nominated as a finalist for the European Fire Safety Award.

Chief Fire Officer Paul Hedley said: “This was an EU project looking at utilising the trustworthiness of our firefighters as role models for promoting social inclusion and community safety.

“We are very proud to be part of this and to be nominated is a credit to the staff involved.”
