Young Bear Hunt winner meets book’s author at Hexham Library

Well known children's author Michael Rosen visited the Silence in the Library audio listening pod at Hexham Library last week as part of the Hexham Book Festival and during his visit made a special presentation to 6-year-old Charlotte Christie.

Charlotte has been visiting Hexham library with her grandmother, who lives in Hexham, since she was two and during the Easter holidays she took part in The Hexham Library Bear Hunt, a fun challenge which took young participants out and about in Hexham searching for clues, thanks to participating local businesses Molly Moo’s Ice Cream Parlour, Cogito Books, The Garden Coffee House and Hexham Abbey. Charlotte’s name was drawn from all the completed entries as the lucky winner of a family pass to Northumberland Country Zoo and a beautiful handmade teddy bear made by a talented member of the Hexham library team.

Michael Rosen was delighted to present Charlotte with her prize during his visit to the library and to sign a  special copy for her of his book We’re Going on a Bear Hunt. Following the visit he gave a performance in the Queens Hall Theatre which was thoroughly enjoyed by all the adults and children present.

The Silence in the Library audio listening pod is the perfect place for sharing a story away from the hustle and bustle of the outside world.
The pod incorporates a sound barrier to any noise going on in the library which makes it particularly good for people with dementia, or those on the autistic spectrum orwith other sensory conditions.

In the pod there are a great range of audio book stories suitable for children and adults of all ages - whether you are looking for a story or rhyme book to share with your child, or would like to relax by yourself and enjoy having a story or piece of poetry read to you for a change - the choice is yours!

The pod is touring libraries throughout  Northumberland and took up residence in Hexham Library on Wednesday May 1, where it will be until the June 1, before moving on to Berwick library for the final stage of the tour .

The pod is available and accessible for everyone to use.  For group bookings, or to book in advance of your visit, please contact the library on 01670 620450
