Northumberland County Council and Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust are proud to take part in Northumberland Pride on 1 June.

Northumberland Pride, which celebrates lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender (LGBT+) communities, is taking place at Alnwick Rugby Club 1pm to 6.30pm. A range of Trust and council services will be attending the event with stalls and information, including the Sexual Health Service, Integrated Wellbeing Service, Fostering and HR.

Alan Richardson, chairman at Northumbria Healthcare said: “We are delighted to be standing together with the council supporting the LGBT+ community and this great event.

“We strive to ensure our staff feel supported and happy in work as this positivity reaches those very people we care for and support. This is why we are committed to making our Trust truly inclusive for both staff and patients, and are proud to support Northumberland Pride.”

In the latest national NHS staff survey, Northumbria Healthcare staff ranked the trust the best in the NHS for morale and the best for diversity, equality and inclusion.

In recent years a great deal of work to support attract and retain LGBT+ staff has taken place in the Trust, in particular on trans inclusion such as raising awareness, mentoring and coaching LGBT staff and managers.

A joint LGBT+ staff network group for Trust and council staff helps in particular with the development of policies and procedures to ensure they are LGBT+ friendly across both organisations.

The hard work that has been carried out by the council was reflected this year when it was ranked in the top 100 Stonewall Workplace Equality Index 2019.

Peter Jackson, Leader of Northumberland County Council, said: “We were delighted to support our LGBT+ community and Northumberland Pride alongside the Trust.

“It is important that equality and diversity is embedded in all we do, both internally for our staff and externally for the communities we serve.

“2019 saw us ranked in the Stonewall Top 100 Employers list. This reflects the hard work we have all put in and shows the importance we place on being an inclusive and supportive employer for everyone.”
