Northumberland’s largest manufacturing employer signs up to campaign

Northumberland’s largest manufacturing employer EGGER has become the latest business to sign up to the Discover our Land campaign.

The Hexham-based company, which is part of the Austrian owned EGGER Group, has become an ambassador for the Northumberland County Council led campaign.

It joins other businesses, including Tharsus, Port of Blyth, Deep Ocean, Hepple Gin and Dispticks Research Ltd, in showing its support for the campaign.

Discover our Land was launched in January and aims to promote Northumberland as a great place to live, work, visit and invest.

The campaign is building a social movement by sharing the stories of businesses and individuals to show people from outside the county to build a career here, invest and grow their business, set up home or explore and visit.

EGGER employs more than 600 people in Hexham and manufactures rawboard which is further upgraded into Melamine Faced Chipboard (MFC) products for the furniture and interior design markets and tongue & groove flooring for the building market. Its products are used throughout everyday life and feature in a range of applications which are used in kitchens, bedrooms, bathrooms, caravans, offices, hotels, student accommodation, shops and structural flooring in the house-building industry.

A campaign video has been developed highlighting the work of EGGER, including its apprenticeship scheme, which will be used in a social media campaign and on the www.discoverourland.co.uk website to showcase the work being done in Northumberland.

Cllr Cath Homer, cabinet member for Culture, Arts, Leisure and Tourism at the council said: “We are thrilled to have EGGER on board with the Discover our Land campaign. Through the campaign we want to tell the story of all of the exciting things happening in industry, so to have the county’s largest manufacturing employer supporting the cause adds great weight to what we want to achieve.

“EGGER has been making huge investments at its Hexham site over the last decade or so, showing the company’s commitment to growing its business in Northumberland.

“We hope that EGGER’s support for the campaign will help to persuade other businesses from all sectors to get involved and help spread the message about what’s great about Northumberland.”

Jackie Watson, Head of Marketing Communications at EGGER said: “We are delighted to be part of the Discover our Land campaign.

“Since 2006 we have invested more than £200m at our Hexham, to make it one of the most technologically advanced chipboard plants in Europe. We invest significantly in our  employees to provide a wide range of opportunities for career and personal development. With some of the country’s best landscapes and environment right on our doorstep, it makes for a great work life balance.

“We hope that by taking part in this campaign we can help to showcase the benefits of investing and doing business in Northumberland.”

EGGER was also a guest speaker at a special Discover our Land roadshow in Hexham last night (THURS), where businesses from across West Northumberland were invited to find out more about the campaign and how they can get involved.
