Pyjamarama Fun across Northumberland Libraries 3-9 June

Northumberland Libraries from Berwick to Blyth and across to Hexham will be welcoming children in their PJs to join in with stories and rhymes to celebrate BookTrust’s Pyjamarama.

As part of Pyjamarama (Monday 3 – Sunday 9 June),Northumberland Libraries is working with BookTrust and other community partners to ensure as many children as possible have their very own story to read before bed. Over 1 in 4 children in the UK aged between 0 and 5 are not read to regularly. This means over 1.4 million children are missing out on the vital benefits of regular reading in the early years.

To help, 1,400 free copies of the picture book Car, Car, Truck, Jeep by Katrina Charman and Nick Sharratt (Bloomsbury Children’s Books)  will be gifted during the week.

At Blyth Library 120 children from What a Hoot nursery will be visiting over the week for stories and songs. In a unique twist to a sleepover, the children will be leaving their teddies at the library for a teddy sleepover. The children will be encouraged to return with their families the next day to collect their bears to join the library and receive a special certificate .

At Berwick Library, the  local Rainbows group will be making story dens and sharing their favourite stories with their friends.

Pyjamarama sessions with invited groups are taking place at Wylam, Widdrington, Hexham, Prudhoe, Haltwhistle, Berwick and Amble, in addition to the regular story and rhyme times that take place at Berwick, Morpeth, Blyth, Seaton Valley and Hexham.
