The Firefighters Plus Programme is a cross-border partnership co-funded by the Erasmus+ programme that aims at helping firefighters use their position as role models to promote social inclusion within their communities.

 

Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service (NFRS) have been enrolled in the pioneering programme since its inception in 2017. It is the first open multilingual online platform to support Fire and Rescue staff to help underprivileged groups within their communities.

 

Cllr John Riddle, Cabinet Member responsible for Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service said: "The Firefighters Plus programme is a great example of how Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service put residents first. Expanding their knowledge and taking on extra duties to do more for their communities. 

 

“Northumberland Fire and Rescue are the only UK fire service who are enrolled on this pioneering programme, championing new and innovative ways of supporting Northumberland Communities".

 

At a recent Firefighters Plus project meeting in Hillerod, Denmark NFRS joined their partner organisations to discuss the feedback from staff who are participating in the programme. 

 

Community Safety Manager Simon Daniell, who attended the meeting said: “Our time in Denmark was a great opportunity to review the progress made to date following the second phase of testing.”

 

“With all our partners in developing the training tool to support the work our Firefighters do in the community, we are all excited about how we can use the new platform in the future.”
