Visitor centre to close for improvement works

The latest phase of improvements at Druridge Bay Country Park are getting underway in the New Year.

Work will start on January 6 to refurbish and extend the visitor centre and cafe and it’s due to re-open at the beginning of April. During this time, toilet facilities will still be provided.

The work is the latest phase of a £1m scheme to upgrade and improve a number of parks in the county.

Last year saw the creation of a new play area at Druridge incorporating a variety of equipment suitable for toddlers to young teens as well as young people with disabilities.

Northumberland County Councillor Glen Sanderson, cabinet member for environment and local services said: “We are continuing to make significant investment in our country parks and are committed to ensuring they remain an attractive place to visit and spend time in.

“This work will see major improvements to the visitor centre, which will be bigger and offer better facilities, in particular the cafe area which will be extended and opened out to provide views across Ladyburn Lake.

“While the centre will be closed for a few weeks we’ve ensured toilets will still be available during these works.”

Druridge Bay Country Park comprises three miles of beautiful beach, sand dunes and  a large freshwater lake surrounded by woods and meadows.

It attracts thousands of visitors each year who come to walk,  relax, picnic or take part in sports.
