Donate your unwanted furniture and help people in need

A community service to collect, repair and reuse unwanted household furniture and items, and then sell them on at affordable prices to those who need them, is operating in Blyth.  And it’s great news for Northumberland County Council tenants who are eligible  to a 10% discount on all used furniture and electrical items in the store, if they take along proof of their tenancy.

The furniture recycling scheme is run by local charity, CT Furniture and is based on Cowpen Road Blyth.

They offer free, prompt collection of unwanted  household furniture such as sofas, tables and chairs, bedroom furniture, working white goods and bric a brac.  These are refurbished and where appropriate, pat tested, before being sold on.

Phil Soderquest, head of  housing and public protection at Northumberland County Council  said:

“  This  popular community scheme helps out local residents by providing furniture at an affordable price, while also helping to reduce landfill by recycling unwanted items. We have been working closely with the charity and are delighted they are supporting our tenants by offering them an extra discount on any goods in the store.”

“If you've got items of furniture or electrical goods you no longer want, think twice before throwing them away as they could be of value to someone in your community.”

The money raised through the sale of the furniture helps the charity to run its wheelchair accessible minibuses - transporting local people with mobility problems to the services they need.

Paul Dodd, Retail and Business Development Manager said:

CT Furniture is very proud to be working in partnership with Northumberland County council and to be serving the Northumberland community.  Our aim is to not only bring low cost furniture and electrical goods to those who need it but to also help avoid unwanted items going to landfill.  We will be continuing to grow our furniture services across the area as well as introduce our low cost accessible mini bus services.”

CT Furniture Blyth is based on Albion Retail Park, Cowpen Road. It is open Monday - Friday 9 am - 6pm, Saturday 9am - 6pm and Sunday 10 am - 4pm.
