Fire safety advice for businesses

Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service (NFRS) are supporting NFCC’s Business Safety Week which runs from 10th - 16th September.
The week aims to provide those with responsibility for businesses and public buildings with information and advice to reduce the number of fire incidents and false alarms in the workplace, both of which impact business safety and productivity, while encouraging all businesses to double check they have taken the steps required by law to protect their business and employees from fire.
Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service provide free, unbiased advice to any business about fire safety, ensuring businesses are compliant to all fire safety laws and legislation.
Chief Fire Officer Paul Hedley, at Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service said: “Business Safety Week has been scheduled to run at a time when many businesses are recruiting new, seasonal staff in the run up to Christmas.
“New recruits may not have the same level of fire safety awareness as permanent members of staff, and may not be aware of the steps needed to protect themselves, their customers and colleagues.
“Business Safety Week reminds businesses of the need to ensure that all staff, both new and long standing members, are aware of potential fire risks in the workplace what to do in the case of a fire.”
John Riddle, cabinet member with responsibility for the fire service said: “Northumberland Fire and Rescue service are here to provide businesses with impartial support and advice, helping to ensure they comply with fire regulations for the safety of themselves and their customers.”
