A new, soundproof listening pod that offers a quiet space to sit and read has been introduced into Northumberland Libraries.
The pod has been specifically designed for the library service and is a modern, versatile space with audio access. It is easily accessible by all ages and can comfortably seat two adults, or an adult with children.
The pod has been funded by the Arts Council England following a successful joint bid by Northumberland County Council and two local arts organisations - Hexham Book Festival and Arts & Heritage. It has been designed by Xsite Architecture from Newcastle.
Northumberland County Councillor Cath Homer, Portfolio holder for Culture, Leisure, Arts and Tourism said:
“The pod offers a wonderful new space within our libraries where customers can sit quietly and enjoy audio books, read a story to their child or just retreat with a book. We think it will be of particular appeal to families with members with autism or dementia who will be able to enjoy a haven of tranquillity within the library space. ”
