The Alnwick and Amble Community Alcohol Partnership (CAP), led by Northumberland County Council, is holding a range of activities throughout a week of action starting July 9th, highlighting the dangers associated with alcohol and underage drinking.
The CAP partnership exists to tackle underage alcohol use and highlight the associated risks for young people, such as, physical harm, increased risk of vulnerability and exploitation and also of drink driving.
Judith Davis, Community Safety Officer at Northumberland County Council and coordinator of the Alnwick and Amble Community Alcohol Partnership explained: “Throughout the course of the awareness week, CAP are working to engage with young people, their parents, schools, youth organisations, local retailers and licensees to educate them around the potential risks associated with alcohol so they can make informed and educated decisions later on.”
Northumberland County Councillor John Riddle, cabinet member with responsibility for Public Protection said: “We have a unified approach to work closely with our local communities to raise awareness of the dangers associated with underage drinking while also tackling underage and proxy sales.
“By working together as a community we are able to tackle these issues from all angles and ensure we are starting conversations and opening up dialogue with our young people so they can make more informed and educated decisions.”
