One of Prudhoe’s main carparks has been spruced up to improve it for shoppers and visitors.
The Oaklands Car Park on Stonyflat Bank has had hedges and trees cut back, litter cleared, gullies cleaned, the car park surface cleared of mud and swept.
Streetlighting will also be improved shortly as part of the county council’s multi-million pound improvement scheme.
Prudhoe South Councillor Gordon Stewart said: “This is one of the main car parks in the town but it had become overgrown and needed some work.
“There was also a fear of crime by some users and it gave the wrong impression of the town to visitors.
“The council has now put a lot of effort into making the area far more pleasant. The vast majority of the work has now been completed and the standard is first class.”
Councillor Glen Sanderson, Cabinet Member for Environment and Local Services, added: “We understand how important good parking facilities are in all our towns and it’s good to see this facility getting a makeover to ensure it remains well used and safe.
“I appreciate all the hard work that Cllr Stewart has done here for the local community to improve this carpark.”
