Scores of new parking spaces have been created in Ponteland town centre.
Work is now complete on a scheme to extend Merton Way car park, creating an additional 54 parking spaces, including an extra seven disabled parking bays. The capacity will increase from 48 to 102 spaces.
The £325,000 scheme included a £56,000 contribution from Ponteland North Councillor Richard Dodd from his Members Small Scheme Fund.
Councillor Glen Sanderson, Cabinet Member for Environment and Local Services, said: “We are improving and investing in new car parking spaces across the county and this scheme will benefit shoppers, traders and the local community.
Councillor Dodd added: “Feedback has been very positive and it’s good to see the expanded carpark area being well used. Hopefully local traders will see a boost in trade over the Christmas period.
“Once we get to next Spring there’ll also be some landscaping carried out around the carpark to further improve the look of the area.”
