A regular visitor to Morpeth has written to Northumberland County Council to express her appreciation for the ‘beauties of Carlisle Park’.
The woman, from Newcastle, wrote to the council’s green spaces officer to ask her to pass on her message to all gardeners for their hard work in maintaining the large park to such high standards, which she says speaks for many admirers.
She said: “After enjoying the beauties of Carlisle Park for many years, probably like countless thousands, I felt it was really time that I should write in with some comments.
“I was in the park this week and, as ever, it was such a source of pleasure and relaxation.
“I first got to know the park on seeing it from the bus window when entering Morpeth and had always admired the floral display, not realising then how large it was.
“Because of its location and the immaculate way in which it is tended, I feel it has great importance in setting the tone for what to expect in the town as a whole.
“It is so refreshing to walk through the beautifully kept, litter-free park or sit comfortably on one of the many seats provided. The wonderful floral arrangements in the town are also much appreciated
“In having Carlisle Park, the town has a precious asset.”
Cllr Glen Sanderson, cabinet member for environment and local services said: “I would like to thank the regular visitor very much for her kind comments. We do have some fantastic park areas in Northumberland, and it is extremely good to know that they are appreciated in this way.”
Carlisle Park is one of nine parks in Northumberland that achieved a Green Flag award this year.
Situated on the south bank of the River Wansbeck, it contains The William Turner Garden, formal gardens, an aviary, play areas, a paddling pool, ancient woodland, picnic areas, toilets, tennis courts, a bowling green, a skate park, and much more.
All Green Flag award winning parks are currently in the running to be one of the nation’s favourites in the People’s Choice Awards. To vote for your favourite Green Flag park simply go to www.greenflagaward.org
