The Getabout Access scheme is a Northumberland County Council funded project operated by Adapt (North East) in partnership with Community Action Northumberland which provides support throughout Northumberland to those who are unable to access mainstream public transport, either because they have mobility difficulties or have no public transport services available to them.
At the heart of the service is a free telephone line 03333 441740 operated by experienced advisors who can help those with an access problem plan a journey, taking into account their particular situation, linking them to the most appropriate public or community transport service to meet their needs.
Where no other appropriate transport service exists, Getabout may be able to arrange for a volunteer driver to provide a lift in their own car
Getabout is currently looking to recruit volunteers across Northumberland. If you have your own car, at least 3 years driving experience and enjoy helping other people - why not think about becoming a Getabout driver. You will be given full training and support and will receive 45p per mile in travel expenses for every journey you undertake,
