Recycling entry meant prizes for designer Olivia

A lucky student at The Grove School in Berwick was the winner of a competition to design a poster telling people how to recycle their plastic bottles.

Olivia entered a competition run by Northumberland County Council’s waste management team aimed at spreading the word that householders in the county can recycle all of their plastic bottles through their recycling bin.

Around 40 young people submitted designs but it was Olivia’s entry that caught the eye of the judges.

The council had it made up into a panel for the side of bin lorries, and it was unveiled at a recent children’s environment day at Wooler.

Olivia was presented with prizes including some art materials and a model recycling truck.

For her school she also gained a plastic bench seat made entirely from plastic bottles and donated to the competition by Marmax products.
